Lake County park rangers and staff from the Lake County Water Authority will lead a “Paddling Adventure & Hike” on Saturday, Feb. 27, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. beginning at the Crooked River Preserve, located at 11121 Lake Louisa Road in Clermont.
Guides will lead paddlers from the Crooked River Preserve while talking about the aquifer and aquatic vegetation along the river. This Lake County Water Authority preserve is a beautiful, undisturbed section of waterfront on Lake Louisa, as well as frontage along the Palatlakaha River.
The sunset paddling adventure will lead to Lake County’s Palatlakaha River Park, located at 12325 Hull Road, in Clermont, where park rangers will give an overview of the restoration efforts at the park and the endangered animals and plants that live in the area.
Paddlers will then depart from the park and return to Crooked River Preserve. Suggested items to bring include headlamps, warm clothing, water, snacks, insect repellent and waterproof cameras. The Lake County Water Authority will be providing participants with canoes or kayaks, life vests and paddles; however, participants are welcome to bring their own canoes & kayaks, life vests and paddles. Participants will be required to sign a liability waiver.
The free “Paddling Adventure & Hike” is limited to the first 15 individuals to place reservations. To make reservations or for more information, call the Lake County Water Authority at (352) 343-3777.
This difficulty level for this Lake County Parks & Trails Division activity is a “2,” which recommends an average level of fitness for this paddle that includes a moderate 2-4 mile paddle on a blueway with obstructions or currents.
