The “Art Around Town” is set for Friday, Aug. 20, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and is a unique art stroll being presented by the Tavares Chamber of Commerce Business Development Committee.
Artists will be located in 18 participating businesses allowing the public to “stroll” down Main and Ruby streets to view a variety of artwork.
As part of the Art Around Town event, the City of Tavares will be opening its reception of Art in the Square at City Hall, located at 201 E. Main St. Several of the downtown businesses will have food and entertainment throughout the evening.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, modern impressionist artist Yvonne Feavearyear and woodturner Jerry Behlmann are among the artists, whose works will be on display.
Many of Feavearyear’s brightly colored works such as acrylic paintings, watercolors and dyed scarves feature women.
“A feminine attitude, whether bold or subtle is always subject to the observers’ perception. A smile, a raised eyebrow, a draped arm are all subject for interpretation — the essence of this body of work,” according to Feavearyear’s website.
Behlmann specializes in an intricate process called “segmented wood turning,” in which pieces of wood are fit and glued together manually, then carved and sanded with the lathe. One piece can encompass many types of wood and wood pieces.
